Dr. Elyse Barry, Ph.D

Dr. Elyse Barry is an executive coach whose practice focuses on executive performance and development.  She brings to clients a unique combination of 20 years of corporate management consulting, a Ph.D. in Psychology, and a postgraduate certificate from the Boston Institute of Psychotherapy. Dr. Barry has a direct yet empathetic approach, which allows clients to move faster to personal and professional solutions.

Dr. Barry helps clients achieve results by aligning the individual’s development objectives with business objectives.  She works with people in various capacities, but always with the underlying goal of creating growth, change and leadership that has personal and organizational effect.  She assists clients in developing interpersonal and communication skills, helps individuals work more effectively in teams, helps clients identify strengths, recognize gaps and realize opportunities.  Dr. Barry has a particular interest in coaching women managers towards realizing their goals within their organizations.

Prior to becoming an independent consultant, Dr. Barry was a principal of Mercer Management Consulting, and began her consulting career at Booz, Allen & Hamilton.  She also served as research director of the Texas Health & Human Services Coordinating Council, a state agency in Austin, Texas.

Dr, Barry’s functional specialty as a management consultant was to lead clients in developing effective marketing strategies in the areas of new product development, market segmentation, brand identity, positioning strategy, and customer franchise management.  She has consulted to Fortune 500 and mid-market companies in a wide range of industries, including banking and financial services, telecommunications, utilities, education, information technology, healthcare, and biotechnology.  

Her clients have ranged from traditional corporate giants to start-ups and have included AntiquesAmerica.com, Applied Biosystems, Avon, AT&T, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Chemical and Chase Manhattan Banks, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Glaxo-SmithKline, IBM, IDX, Maxima Solutions, MedImpact, Millennium Partners, NCR, Unica del Peru, and Unisys. 

Her received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley, and her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.  She graduated from the three-year, advanced clinical training program at the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy, where she also served as a staff clinician, and spent five years on the organization’s board of directors.  Other executive education courses have included marketing strategy at the Tuck School of Business/Dartmouth College, and negotiation training at the Harvard Negotiation Project.
